ASSA ABLOY’s Commitment to Sustainability Goes Beyond Energy Efficiency with New EcoSuite of Products

BOSTON, Mass., Nov. 8, 2017 — ASSA ABLOY advances its commitment to sustainability by expanding the industry-leading line of eco-friendly products from Group brands Securitron and HES.

The new Securitron M680E Magnalock® with EcoMag® technology (scheduled for an upcoming launch) has an increased holding strength of 1,200 lbs, and is eco-friendly with a power draw as low as 60mA — representing a reduction in energy consumption of up to 80 percent over previous M680 series product.

Beyond providing energy efficiency, EcoMag is designed for sustainability through every step of production, going as far as shipping the product in a cardboard box with a fully-biodegradable foam packaging insert made entirely of corn starch.

“ASSA ABLOY’s commitment to sustainability looks at the bigger picture beyond power consumption,” says David Corbin, Senior Product Manager, ASSA ABLOY. “We can create a product that draws significantly less power, but if it’s full of harmful materials, it’s not a good product. We focus on the life cycle of the product as a whole, and make it sustainable in all possible aspects.”

The EcoPower Power Supply, also a part of the EcoSuite line of products, is designed to work with low-power electrified access control devices, and reduces standby power consumption to only 8.5mW — a 99% energy savings compared to current linear and switching power supplies. To date, the EcoPower is the most efficient, fully-featured power supply available.

The 1500E/1600E EcoStrike Electrified Strikes will preview at Greenbuild 2017, and is the next product in the EcoSuite line. The EcoStrike offers a dynamic, flexible and modular solution that is 95 percent more efficient than most standard electric strikes. With a seven-year average Return on Investment payback, the EcoStrike can be ordered fail safe or fail secure and is field convertible from standard solenoid to Eco-motor.

As more commercial facilities move toward sustainable solutions, facility owners are looking beyond just energy efficiency and looking at how they are made. With ASSA ABLOY’s commitment to sustainability, facility managers now have the peace-of-mind knowing that the products that keep facilities secure also promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle from concept, to the product’s end-of-life, and beyond.
