No Ordinary Joe

Nashville Gets the Rarest Blend of Art, Luxury and Southern Hospitality
An elegant, new build constructed of 21 stories of geometric glass and steel, The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nashville may at first strike contrast with the city’s hometown feel, but the experience is an inspiring balance of thoughtful design, effortless comfort, and authentic Southern hospitality. From the moment of arrival, guests are privy to artistic experiences ranging from larger-than-life video installations, paintings, and sculpture, to architectural details, custom furniture, and even the cocktails served at the 21st-floor, rooftop bar.

Owned and developed by The Pizzuti Companies (the property is named after President and COO Joel Pizzuti’s grandfather) under Marriott International’s Luxury Collection flag, the 297-key property opened late August 2020 with a range of guestrooms and suites. Featuring an expertly curated art selection inclusive of more than 1,100 pieces from The Pizzuti Collection, the works of internationally-renowned artists are woven throughout the experience, beginning with a video installation by Wu Chi-Tsung set in vibrant, living green walls in the property’s porte cochère. The new downtown hotel also features a 5,500-square-foot spa and salon – Rose (named after Pizzuti’s daughter); an extensive fitness center; a rooftop lounge, outdoor pool, and deck with stunning views of the Nashville skyline; meeting and event facilities with outdoor terraces; and even an acoustically-optimized performance space.

Dining options at The Joseph are as refined as its art collection: Yolan by celebrity food and beverage partners Tony and Cathy Mantuano has been quickly heralded a world-class masterstroke in luxury Italian dining; the Lobby Bar is a marriage of simplicity and class; Denim, the rooftop bar, offers fun, bold takes on classic cocktails and American fare; and, opening later this year, Four Walls will be a one-of-a-kind, craft cocktail bar evoking speakeasy vibes.

“Every detail at The Joseph is about delivering a sophisticated and unforgettable guest experience,” Raj Radke, General Manager, The Joseph, explains. “Our team has explored and refined every touchpoint that our guests might encounter. From the moment they arrive in our innovative porte cochère and then step onto the hand-cut Italian marble of our lobby, every element and interaction of their stay is an opportunity to create a lasting impression.”

Radke encourages guests to explore The Joseph just as they would a new city, with unabashed curiosity and enthusiasm. This philosophy is founded on the comprehensive vision of The Pizzuti Companies and the firm’s unyielding commitment to detail — evidenced by the custom-designed reception desk featuring engraved leather paneling by renowned Texas-based boot company, Lucchese; elegant bronze front door handles; coffee cups in every guest room etched with the face of loveable Lou, the Pizzuti family’s French bulldog; and much more.

Steve Tutino, President of Ipanema Solutions of The Woodlands, Texas, provided the technologies and tech design services that upholds the vision. Founded in 2003, Tutino has established Ipanema Solutions as one of the few end-to-end technology providers to the hospitality and multi-unit industries. His group’s expert management of the entire process — from engineering and design to procurement, integration and support — has earned Ipanema some of the most ambitious and prestigious assignments in hospitality, and a stellar reputation as elite solutions providers. His team worked with LG Electronics to provide LG hospitality televisions for guestrooms and suites; LG laptops for the management team; and LG video walls and televisions for the shared spaces.

“Sometimes overlooked by the guest, the performance and reliability of technology is critical to a friction-less guest experience,” Tutino says. “We met with the team at The Joseph to learn how they hoped to operate the hotel and how technology could optimize operations and facilitate a seamless, positive guest experience. The result is a phenomenal property with a guest experience that travelers will recall fondly and that locals will visit time and again!”

The array of LG display technologies at The Joseph include a stunning 98” LG 98UH5E-B UltraHD digital signage monitor for the lobby art installation; over 300 65” LG 65UT347H hospitality televisions for guestrooms operating on a LG Pro:Centric server; LG 75” 4K UltraHD hospitality televisions for shared spaces and other displays featured throughout the property for entertainment, wayfinding and digital signage. LG 55” Commercial Lite NanoCell 4K televisions are featured in each of the meeting rooms. The property is cooled with an LG HVAC system and run with LG gram laptops for team-members.

The elegant confluence of technology and art is apparent throughout The Joseph and especially in the lobby where a 20’x10’ LG Direct View video wall features a rotation of licensed digital art from The Pizzuti Collection. Smaller scale digital art installations with LG 75” 4K Smart UltraHD hospitality televisions are located on each elevator landing of The Joseph.

The selection of LG was a natural choice for Tutino and The Joseph. “You cannot create an elite experience with non-elite components. LG enabled us to provide best-of-breed technologies in the guestroom, in the lobby, at front of house, in back of house and capitalize on efficiency, economies and the accountability of working with one vendor.”

David Clary, Senior Account Manager, LG Electronics shares this view. “The Joseph is a project in exceptionalism. Every experience, every detail, every moment is carefully considered and curated beautifully. We’re pleased that LG can provide the technologies that support the vision and also that we have the organizational scale to support partners like Ipanema and customers like The Joseph with application engineering, support, logistics and, also, economies of scale.”

Clary is a strong believer in partnership as a catalyst for success. “Our partnership with Steve Tutino and the team at Ipanema is extremely important to me — professionally and personally. Together, we have been presented with many technological and commercial challenges and we’ve come out of each stronger, with new ideas, new programs and new friendships. It’s something I value highly and something I am very proud of.”

Equally proud of his brand, Clary points at the artwork that adorns the walls of The Joseph and the remarkable architecture and interior design of the property. “The aesthetic design of our NanoCell displays and televisions needed to meet the high standards of the environments in which they’re situated. I am told that they look very much at home.”

As the economy rebounds, vaccines take hold and travel rebounds, The Joseph will provide guests from around the world but also local residents and regional guests with an exceptional, differentiated experience. Radke is confident that the property’s tasteful blend of location, design, facilities, guestrooms, and dining is a recipe for success.
